The Gray Fellowship was formed more than fifty years ago, as a group within the Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service (WSCS.) Mrs. Pauline Gray, a dedicated Christian woman in the Roberts Park WSCS, sponsored the original group, which came to be named for her.
The Gray Fellowship meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel parlor. The Men’s Auxiliary, composed of spouses of Gray Fellowship members and other men from the congregation, gets together for their own meeting on the same night, often enjoying the fellowship of a meal together.
Members of the Gray Fellowship are very active in the life of Roberts Park church, giving the gifts of their time, talents, and treasure for various causes. In recent years, the Gray Fellowship has made contributions to many of the local mission efforts supported by the church, such as the Wheeler Mission, Fletcher Place Community Center, Lebanon Children’s Home, and Gleaner’s Food Bank. In addition, they have made contributions to the March of Dimes and the United Methodist Committee on Relief Outreach, Inc. (UMCOR.) Each Christmas they participate in the Children’s Bureau of Indianapolis’ Family Support Center program that provides gift cards for needy families to shop for the holidays.
Prayer Blanket Ministry
The Roberts Park United Methodist Church Prayer Blanket Ministry began in 2007. This ministry is an activity of the Gray Fellowship, and provides a custom-made fleece blanket embroidered with the recipient’s name and an appropriate scripture verse. Prayer blankets are given to celebrate marriages, anniversaries and births, as well as to send prayers for healing and strength to those experiencing illness or recovering from an accident or surgery. The congregation consecrates each blanket during morning worship by laying their hands on the blanket and offering prayer. Each Prayer Blanket is sure to warm the heart of the recipient as it brings a symbol of prayers for God’s will to manifest in the life of the recipient.
If you would like to sponsor a prayer blanket for a loved one or member of the congregation, please call Sharon Herdman at 317-885-1270.
