Be the friendly, welcoming face of Roberts Park as an usher or greeter before services or as a host during after-worship fellowship hour. Offering a warm reception to visitors, guests and long-time members is one of the most important responsibilities of our congregation. If you enjoy meeting new people and enlarging your circle of friends at Roberts Park, volunteering to serve as an usher, greeter or fellowship hour host is a great way to do so.
Greeters are stationed at the Vermont Street and Delaware Street entrances to welcome and assist all who come for services. Arriving one-half hour before a service, greeters are especially important in making first-time visitors feel welcome and at ease. As a greeter, you may introduce yourself, show the way to the chapel or sanctuary, or provide direction to other areas of the building. Greeters generally serve one Sunday each month of the year as well as for occasional services based on availability.
At least six ushers are needed to assist before, during and following the 10:30 a.m. worship service each Sunday. Ushers welcome those entering the sanctuary, offer worship bulletins, and provide information and assistance as needed. Ushers also collect the offering during the service. After the service ends, ushers collect pew sign-in sheets. Ushers are asked to serve on the Sundays of alternating months throughout the year.
Fellowship Hour Hosts
Volunteers who make and serve coffee or lemonade and cookies on Sundays are especially important in making newcomers feel at home as well as building community among those who attend regularly. This responsibility includes arriving early enough on Sunday morning to prepare serving tables, make coffee and lemonade, and arrange platters of cookies. After the 10:30 a.m. service, hosts serve those refreshments for approximately 45 minutes and then help to clean up and put the kitchen in order before leaving. Hosts are asked to serve on the Sundays of alternating months throughout the year.
