"When I Was Hungry and Thirsty"

This sculpture was dedicated at Roberts Park UMC on Sunday, August 29th, 2021.

From the artist's webpage:

Inspired by the Gospel of Matthew 25:40, this sculpture is a visual representation of Charity. It tells us that we need to see Christ in the poor and the hungry and that we should see our acts of kindness to them as kindness to Him.

"Homeless Jesus"

Dedicated on Nov. 13, 2015 by Roberts Park United Methodist Church, "Homeless Jesus" is part of our church's efforts to raise awareness about homelessness in Indianapolis

The “Homeless Jesus” sculpture invites reflection and action to address community needs in Indianapolis. Roberts Park, in association with other Indianapolis service agencies, has installed an extraordinary piece of public art to promote awareness and support for the homeless population of central Indiana on its property in the downtown area. Hear the NPR interview with Rev. Dr. Andrew Scanlon-Holmes about this project:

Along with partners Wheeler Mission Ministries, Outreach Inc., and the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic, the church has installed “Homeless Jesus,” a highly acclaimed bronze sculpture by Canadian artist Timothy P. Schmalz, in the heart of downtown Indianapolis at the intersection of Massachusetts, Alabama and Vermont Streets.

All contributions now go to support the work of these community partners as well as the Roberts Park Soup’s On program. The project also has the support of the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention and Prevention (CHIP), which is not benefiting financially.

Donations can also be made directly to Roberts Park at 401 North Delaware, Indianapolis, IN 46204. Please indicate that the contribution is for “Homeless Jesus” and include contact information so that a receipt can be provided to you.
